Copper Ranges Dated

I finally dug out my HOME MODERNIZING magazine dated 1954. The ad for Chambers Ranges includes the copper range and copper built-ins, also stainless steel and decorator colors were available. The early and mid 50's was a mad rush to Modernism, usually under the guise of "efficiency", cleaner design = ease of maintenance and usage. Many materials and techniques developed developed for the "war effort" later went into production for consumer products...nylon and the huge advances being made in plastics are perhaps the best known. Long winded as usual, we at least know that in 1954 copper was available...I'll continue researching and maybe come up with an even earlier date.

I spoke with Mr Jowers of Antique Appliances in Clayton Georgia(Antique Appliances.com) and he is very firm in his belief that the freestanding Antique Copper Chambers Ranges were only actually produced in 1953, although agrees that they were probably for sale for a couple of years after that. I was perplexed because my of Copper model has the date stamped 1953, but also has the burner with a brain feature.....The mystery continues.
